    I've had an interest in learning more about Spinoza for some time, but hadn't gotten around to it and maybe was a bit intimidated. This was a really awesome, well made and easy to follow introduction and honestly, from your explanation Spinoza's metaphysical ideas seem shockingly intuitive and familiar. Also, more broadly I enjoy how you connect and teach about Kabbalah with your content. In part because I don't come from a Jewish culture and haven't had much exposure to it I've felt slightly hesistant to dive deeper. But your channel has really piqued my interest in it. So glad I saw your collabs with Dr. Sledge and sought out your channel.

    god is a person, all your reflexions and discussions with endless arguments will never put you in presence of god, god is revealed in the heart not in the intellect. you cannot describe someone's presence there is not enough paper in the world to contain it, but you can feel it and taste its existence without ever speaking about it. back to genesis, god made man to his image and likeness and placed his own spirit inside, ask yourself who you are and who are the other human beeings. you can extend that to all living beeings, they arent machines, they arent powered by electricity, that is god existing everywhere. you jews think god never gave you a messiah, you will cry all the tears you can when you find out god didnt lie.

    Ehh I trust the ancestors in their judgment of him. He was a degenerate heretic. Also was he not burned by the secular authorities not the Catholic Church? Oh and I find it interesting that people like you who are fascinated with anti-establishment degeneracy like this to throw stones at the Catholic Church for their various cruelties but are silent on the cruelties of secular entities. You plan on doing a video on Robespierre and all those murdered in haste and in cruelty during the French revolution? Those who died under Pol Pot? Stalin? What about the aggressively anti-Christian attack in Russia by the Bolsheviks...Doubt it.

    Just as religions typically divide existence into God and non-God, they also split man into body and soul. They often say Soul is of God and body is not. I look at body as dense substance and mind as subtle substance. They are both the same substance but of different densities. They might be several layers to a humans of different densities but he is a single being, one substance of different densities. Even the universe is of one substance and of different densities, and all God.

    Many similarities with sanatana dharma (aka Vedic tradition, aka Hinduism). A Very conscious way to live and a commitment to worship One God, known by many names to many nations: Hashem (the name), Allah (God), Yahweh (I am Who I am), Adonai (Lord) Abba (Father), Raama (the source of all pleasure), Krishna (the All Attractive Person), Vishnu (the All-Pervading One), The Absolute Truth. Unity in diversity! The Golden Rule: And don't forget to love God with all of your heart, love God with all of your mind and body. And love your neighbours as you love yourself (and don't do to your neighbours what you won't like to be done to you) There is only one true religion and all others are wrongly understood: love of God and love of all God's creation including animals and plants (aka respect for all life - all life is sacred) We can't create life, hence don't take life. Let us not get addicted to killing other living beings (animals) for the fleeting pleasure of our tongue. Let's have mercy and mercy will be shown to us too... Praise the Lord Shalom Salaam Aleikum Sat Sri Akaal Hare Krishna Namaskar

    This is so awesome! A heartfelt thanks for being so honest about your Jewish practice brother! As a Muslim there is so much similarity between Islam and Judaism... Tzedaka in Hebrew (Justice- the monetary sharing) is called Sadaqah in Arabic which is so important in Islam as well! Amongst many other Similarities. We are all created by One perfect and Divine God and it's truly so amazing to see all of us living (or trying our best to live ;) ) within the Light of God! Infinite Peace and Blessings to you!

    I feel like the big bang is the best evidence for pantheism. I feel like the complexity of quantum mechanics is also great evidence for pantheism. Maybe understanding a God that began as the Big bang is beyond the capability of mere humans, though this quest of incredible minds such as yourself, is extremely fascinating.

    Zevi, Kabbalah and any serious Mekubal today dont hold by "theury", that you literally manipulate, influence or affect HaShem. Only the sefirot of Ze'er Anpin and Nukva of Asilut are affected, Gds tools He uses to interact with us. In other words, our actions affect how He will bless us or chas v'shalom punish us. This is a concept found explicitly in Chumash like Parashat B'Chukotai so this isnt at all the typical definition of theurgy from Chumash nor from Kabbalah. Academics are wrong to claim Kabbalah teaches "theurgy" at least as usually defined. Do you agree?

  • @everythingtorah
    @everythingtorah 9 днів тому

    Very well said Zevi that many treated Gershom Scholem's books as gospel instead of remaining open to further research like Moshe Idel and others were and indeed reached different conclusions. I wish Justin Sledge @TheEsotericaChannel would likewise remain open minded about the origins of the Chumash instead of treating the Documentary Hypothesis as gospel. There are powerful arguments against it, but he acts like its fact

    No, idolatry was not allowed inside the Temple. The two cherubim were not idols. Whenever idolatry happened inside the Temple, God condemned it (see Ezekiel 8). The more I get to know about Kabbalah, the more I am convinced it is a force to destroy judaism.

    Not trying to disrespect, but this is annoying to watch. So you ignore saying the Shema in the morning and the evening as Torah states you do and use those rabbinic prayers instead? You ignore the blue thread by not keeping it? You repeat prayers from someone else dead hundreds of years and have no authentic relationship with HaShem? "Because that people has approached with its mouth and honored me with its lips but has kept its heart far from me, and its worship of me has been a commandment of men, learned by rote-- Truly, I shall further baffle that people with bafflement upon bafflement; and the wisdom of its wise shall fail, and the prudence of its prudent shall vanish" Isaiah 29 So many things you do that Torah does not teach and is not authentic to your soul. I have no doubt, one of the first things moshiach will do is abolish the Talmud.

    Nice video. Luckily this old philosophy and wisdom is still practiced and live in India. These ideas have origin in Vedanta. The famous word yoga used now is most miss understood. As per vedanta, mind is the one which hinders us from realising the our true nature within, the god. Yoga is a practice involving selfless sacrifice to still the mind from all desires to unite our soul with the nature our body. This stage is called Nirvana. A person who had realised this will see all persons as equal. Good and bad don't exist for him and he is not scared of death since it's a phenomenon for a body. Om!

As a student of Spinoza's philosophy, I have studied Spinoza's Ethics extensively, and I believe to really understand Spinoza, you must live his ideas. I have more than a theoretical concept. Where is your update 7 months on if you really are a true seeker or unity?? Where is your condemnation of I5rael for the slaughter of women and children, over 40,000 people killed- let alone the 10’s of thousands that are mutilated for life because of the murder! I5rael is an occupying force, they took this land by force, it is the occupied not the occupying force that has a ‘right’ to defend itself. History did not start on the 7th of October as you very well know it started decades before that with multiple 7th of October’s being inflicted on the Palestinians, the victims in this! Nothing short of a land split of 50/50 would be a viable solution, and this too because of the kindness of the occupied Palistanin people! Else a one state solution - but we know I5rael will never accept this! I say this: If you really are a seeker of unity you would be honest and state this loud and clear! This unjust murder and slaughter has to stop and the truth must be said as our Jewish brothers Gabor Mate and Norman Finkelstien speak it! Be of those type if you are not a hypocrite and are truly a ‘Seeker of Unity!”

    I recently came across the history of the Greco-Bactrian and Indo-Greek kingdoms - as a long time buddhist I was truly impressed and awestruck. I had learned of Schopenhauer's influence from buddhism, and also that of Hume, but this takes it back to the time of Greece. I really appreciate you providing the academic approach with both sides represented; I am eager to read the rebuttals. I recently bought Beckwith's book and now you introduced me to McEvilley - which looks daunting but incredibly interesting! Thank you

    Hmmm. I don't know Aftermann at all, but I do know a fair bit about Philo, and Philo was very, very careful about NOT indulging in the kind of mysticism we see in Plotinus - the idea of the ultimate union of the soul with God. And all the Philo scholars I read and knew agreed on that point. Philo came close to the idea of the ascent of the soul, but never actually went there himself - he was always very careful to stay within the bounds of Judaism, and honour the distinction between the human and the divine. We'd all love to say that Philo was a mystic and taught the way of ascent, but as a matter of fact, you can't get that out of his actual words. I think he knew the idea from Greek philosophy (pre-Plotinus), and knew not to go there.

  • @elizabethmorton4904
    @elizabethmorton4904 20 днів тому

    A long time ago I was doing a doctoral degree in "early Judaism," with a focus on Philo (couldn't complete due to adverse circus.). I wouldn't say at all that the author of the Gospel of John got the idea of the Logos from Philo - I've read an awful lot about both the Gospel of John and Philo, and I have never heard of anyone making that claim. The early Church Fathers, definitely, but NOT, NOT, NOT the Gospel of John. "John" probably picked up the idea from the Stoic ideas floating around the Greco-Roman world. There is nothing else, other than the idea of the Logos, that we find in both GJn and Philo, most certainly nothing that indicates dependence. The idea of the Logos was very well-known. What do your sources actually say? Be really careful here - this is parallelomania of the worst kind! Sorry to critique, but your stuff is great, so far, and I know you are concerned to avoid fallacies such as parallelomania. It just so happens that you are talking, here at 53:55, about something I actually know a fair bit about. Given your areas of research, I wouldn't expect you to know that much about GJn! If I'm wrong, please tell me! I would really want to know!
